* * * * * GERAINT DAVIES - Geraint Davies, who works as pharmacist in Treherbert, has represented the ward for many years and was Rhondda's first Assembly Member. He is married to Merril and has four children and two grandchildren. He is the Secretary of Blaencwm Baptist Church and President of Blaenrhondda Football Club. He is proud of Plaid's record in government and particularly so in the Treherbert ward. Plaid, for example, built the new Penyrenglyn School, initiated the £10million Neighbourhood Renewal Scheme, started the transformation of the neglected Mount Libanus Estate and completely renewed Blaencwm Park. He is very concerned at the lack of any strategy for the development of the upper Rhondda and the wholesale sale of council land. He is critical in the delay in the production of the Local Development Plan which is causing so much uncertainty. He wholeheartedly supports Plaid's policy to safeguard the future of the site of the Riding for the Disabled and the Haigside Allotments by the land being brought into public ownership. * * * * *
LAYTON "PERCY" JONES - Percy has a long track record of serving the community of Treherbert. He is currently Acting Chief Executive for Huggard - a charity working for homeless and vulnerable people - a job that he has been doing for 16 years. Percy served on the Rhondda Borough Council and was elected onto Rhondda Cynon Taf Council in 1999, where he served as the Cabinet Member for Better Health. Percy was the first Chairperson of CwmNi, former chair of Penyrenglyn School and currently a trustee with Voluntary Community Services and Stonewall Cymru. Percy is proud of Plaid's achievements in the ward such as the New School for Penyrenglyn, the £10million Neighbourhood Renewal Scheme, the transformation of the Mount Libanus Estate and the renewal of Blaencwm Park. If elected, Percy will conduct meaningful consultation, will keep residents informed of important matters such as the Neighbourhood Renewal Association and will re-establish councillor surgeries in the ward. * * * * *
He has retired from his career as a professional actor but remains a member of the actors’ Union, Equity. Roger is a past Chair of CwmNi’s Environment Theme Group and Vice Chair of the CwmNi Board. He has therefore already contributed significant voluntary service to all the villages of our Ward. He is particularly proud of the role he played in staging the first, very successful, Blaencwm Village Festival – now an annual event. Roger is now keen to use his energy, knowledge and experience – including that of a Community Councillor - to work as part of the Labour Party Team, to tackle the on-going work to improve our communities, our environment and our prospects. He is committed to the Labour programme that will be implemented should Labour still be running the Council after the elections, as he believes that this holds the best prospect for continued investment in Council services that the people want and care about.

DAVID JEFFREY WILLIAMS is eager to win your support for a second term as a Councillor. For the last four years, Jeff has been at the forefront of the battles to improve our area. He points to the introduction of kerbside recycling and improved street cleansing amongst the many previous election promises that have been kept. Jeff believes that the regeneration of the area is dependent upon significant investment, and that is why he was determined to get the Treherbert Ward included in the Heads of the Valleys programme, the benefits of which have begun to pay off through additional funding being made available for projects in the Ward. Jeff is the current Chairman of CwmNi, in which role he is familiar with all the environmental, health, business, educational and community safety needs of the Ward. He is Chair of Governors at Pen Pych School, and is a Governor of Treorchy Comprehensive School. Jeff hopes to continue his work as part of a Labour team.
