GIFT
WRAP COMPANY FINED FOR FIRE SAFETY BREACHES ...... Top
(Friday,
August 27, 2004)
A Valleys based gift wrap manufacturer has been fined a total of £27,000,
and ordered to pay more than £1000 costs following "serious" breaches
of fire safety regulations at its premises in Pengam Rd, Aberbargoed.
The sentences were imposed on Scandinavian Design Ltd at Abertillery Magistrates
Court on Friday 13th August, when the company pleaded guilty to nine offences.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service brought the charges against
Scandinavian Design, after Fire Safety Officers visited the premises on 9th
April 2003, and found several contraventions of the Fire Precautions Act 1971.
There had been 21 separate fire-related incidents at the factory over the last
five years, one of which resulted in 8 employees being taken to hospital suffering
from smoke inhalation.
During their visit in April 2003, Fire Safety Officers found that two fire
exits were blocked, two fire doors had been wedged open or were broken, evacuation
procedure notices for staff in the case of fire were missing or incomplete,
and building works had been carried out and rooms brought into use without
notification to the Fire Service, who have to provide guidance on safe working
environments.
Imposing the fines, Abertillery Magistrates said that Scandinavian Designs
Ltd had shown “culpable neglect in ensuring the safety of their employees”.
Divisional Officer Simon Morgan, Head of Fire Safety at the South Wales Fire
and Rescue Service, said:
“By breaching the fire regulations, Scandinavian Design Ltd put at
risk the lives of the company’s employees as well as others visiting
the premises. The fact that the company pleaded guilty at the first opportunity
is laudable, but the Magistrates still saw the offences as extremely serious.
We hope that the severe penalty imposed by the Court will serve as a warning
to other organisations and make them take extremely seriously their responsibilities
in terms of fire safety”.
SMOKE ALARMS LAUNCH ...... Top
(Friday,
August 27, 2004)
The smoke alarm is the nation’s most popular invention. Chances are you have one in your home. But when was the last time you tested the battery? Do you even have a battery in your alarm? Nationally, you are twice as likely to die in a fire in your home if you do not have a working smoke alarm. This is a huge human cost for failing to do something as simple as checking your smoke alarm.
This September, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service is launching a hard-hitting national campaign urging people to check their smoke alarm batteries once a week – Push the Button! Not Your Luck!
Worryingly, although around 80% of the population now own smoke alarms, fire statistics show that many of these alarms are not functioning due to flat or missing batteries.
Brian Fraser, Chief Fire Officer for South Wales, said: “Previous fire safety campaigns have been very successful in increasing the number of smoke alarms in people’s homes. However, a smoke alarm is useless if it is not in working order. It is imperative that people check their smoke alarms regularly. Nuisance alarms needn’t go off if they are situated correctly. And never, ever remove batteries for use in other electrical appliances.”
Here are some essential tips to ensure your smoke alarm can save your life in the event of a fire: Fit smoke alarms on every level of your home; Check the battery once a week; Replace the battery every twelve months; Battery smoke alarm units should be replaced every ten years; Consider installing ten year smoke alarms or hard wired alarms; Do not put smoke alarms in the kitchen.
The campaign will feature TV, radio and press advertising and is supported by the Fire and Rescue Service in England and Wales and the Partners in Fire Prevention: Ei Electronics, Energizer, esure, Help the Aged, Homebase, Lloyds pharmacy and Woolworths.
Further information about smoke alarm maintenance and fire safety advice can

One of the Rally GB competition cars will be one show at the Rhondda Cynon Taff Gardening and Craft Show 2004 – racing enthusiasts will have the chance to jump in the drivers seat and get their picture taken.

“The

Gardening and Craft show we’ve held,” said Debbie Cotton,
Rhondda Cynon Taff Council’s Events Manager. “We’ve

LABOUR LEADER WRONG ABOUT COUNCIL BUDGET ...... Top
(Thursday,
August 19, 2004)
The District Auditor has confirmed that the Rhondda Cynon Taff Council budget for 2004/05 set by Plaid Cymru, is balanced and legal. In a letter to Councillor Pauline Jarman, the leader of the Plaid Cymru councillors group, Mr Chris Koehli says: “Based on my current understanding of the position I am content that, although the Council has set a challenging budget for 2004/2005, it is nonetheless a balanced one. I am also content that the Group Director – Corporate Services has put in place a proper arrangements for monitoring the achievement of the budget.” Councillor Jarman made a formal complaint to the District Auditor when the New Labour Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taff Council incorrectly claimed that the 2004/05 budget set by Plaid Cymru was £15 million in the red. At the Council meeting held on July 1st the New Labour Leader repeated the incorrect claim that the 2004/05 budget set by Plaid Cymru was £15 million in the red. New Labour then voted down a proposal by Councillor Jarman that a Treasurer’s Report (151 Report) should be ordered to investigate his claims.Commenting on District Auditor’s letter, Councillor Jarman said: “New Labour has been proved wrong yet again. There is no £15 million hole in the Council’s budget, there never was. Plaid Cymru handed the new administration a properly balanced and legal budget with £8 million left in the bank. I am very concerned that New Labour is now planning to break the budget. They made election promises that they cannot afford and they know that they are incapable of controlling council spending. You only have to look at their record before 1999 to see that. The future is bleak for Rhondda Cynon Taff residents. When New Labour blows a hole in the budget, it will be the residents who will have pay higher council taxes.”

COUNCIL TAKE ACTION AGAINST UNFIT BUILDING ...... Top
(Friday,
August 13, 2004)
Magistrates
have fined the owner of a derelict building in the Cynon Valley for failing
to carry out the necessary repairs required by Rhondda Cynon Taff County
Borough Council. The
building in Pryce Street, Mountain Ash, had deteriorated into such a poor
condition, the man was fined £250, plus £340.52
in costs, for failing to restore and renovate the property.Environmental Health Officers from Rhondda Cynon Taf Council acted after continuous
attempts to get the property renovated. Wesley Mabbs, of Station Terrace, Penarth,
was found guilty of the offence of not complying with the notice served to
address the poor condition of his property. The magistrates heard that
in September 2003 a notice was served on Mabbs requiring him to carry out
works to deal with the ruinous and dilapidated condition of his property,
or for the property to be demolished. The
property, being in a in a poor state of repair for a number of years, had
deteriorated further due to structural movement to the front elevation wall
resulting in the building becoming a health and safety hazard.Rhondda Cynon Taff Council’s
Building Control Department had previously made contact with Mabbs concerning
the building’s dangerous condition
due to the poor state of repair of the roof that had loose and slipped slates. As
well as this, the shop frontage and side boundary wall was considered to be
in a dangerous condition with large structural cracking on the front of the
property.However, despite repeated
attempts by Council officers, no works were undertaken to comply with the
notices and the matter was referred to court. Mabbs
failed to attend the court and the case was heard in his absence. On sentencing, and following
presentation of photos of the property, the magistrates stated that they
were shocked at the state of disrepair of the building. "Private
owners can’t simply neglect their properties if they are
in a ruinous condition - nor can they ignore legal notices,” said
Angela Jones, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Acting Head of Public Health
and Protection. “Abandoned
buildings and unkept buildings in private ownership are often a blight on
our communities as well as a safety concern for residents. We
give the owners every opportunity to repair their properties but lack of
compliance means we may have to resort to court action.”
Advice and information
on the condition of empty properties and derelict buildings is available
from Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s
Environmental Health Officers on 01443 442100.
The initial Notice was served under Sections 79(1) and 81 of the Building
Act 1984 addressing the properties Ruinous and Dilapidated condition.

FOOD WARNING: ORGANIC ALFALFA ...... Top
(Friday, July 16, 2004) Rhondda Cynon Taff Council are advising local consumers not to eat certain batches of Aconbury branded sprouted alfalfa products following Food Standards Agency (FSA) advice that they may be contaminated with salmonella.
The Food Standards Agency found the bug present in organic alfalfa produced by Aconbury Sprouts.Consumers could have contaminated sprouted seeds at home because they have a shelf-life as long as 28 July 2004. Anyone who has any of these alfalfa sprouts is advised not to eat them because of the risk of food poisoning. Alfalfa sprouts are usually eaten uncooked in salads or sandwiches, and so there is no possibility of killing the bug from cooking. The range of Aconbury Sprouts products containing alfalfa, which could be affected are: Alfalfa Sprouts – sold in 115g clear plastic packets with a white diamond label and 'best before' dates of 21, 24 and 28 July 2004; Alfalfa and Radish Sprouts – sold in 115g clear plastic packets with a white diamond label and 'best before' dates of 21, 24 and 28 July 2004; Alfalfa and Broccoli Sprouts – sold in 113g clear plastic packets with a white square label bearing a picture of a rabbit, and the 'best before' dates of 21, 24 and 28 July 2004. All the products bear the name of the company on the label. Anyone who has a product from the affected batch should return it to their retailer and request a refund or throw it in the bin. If you have any concerns or queries regarding this matter you can contact Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Public Health & Protection Division on 01442 442100.
Aconbury Sprouts, based in Pontrilas, Herefordshire, is a major supplier of organic sprouted seeds nationwide. It is carrying out a trade withdrawal of the three affected products, which have been on sale across the UK. Most supplies are believed to have gone to health food shops, markets and small retailers, rather than major supermarkets. The Agency has asked local authorities to ensure they are removed from sale. Likely retailers in the area have been contacted.

PINK HAZE FALLS UPON TREHERBERT AND DISTRICT ...... Top
(Thursday, July 29, 2004)About an hour before sunset last night a pink haze fell upon the area. Residents reported that everywhere they looked that colours had been enhanced.
One resident explains: "I went into the garden and couldn't get over it. Every blade of green seemed greener. Every flower seems brighter and fresher. It was as if someone had switched a technicolour switch on. It was brillant."
The event was seen as far as Treorchy and made its way up to Treherbert and beyond into Blaencwm and Blaenrhondda. The whole event lasted for approximately thirty minutes.
Another resident said: "I thought the world was coming to an end. There was a pink haze everywhere. I thought I was in The Wizard of Oz, I was afraid to tap my shoes incase I disappeared off to Kansas!"
From 28th June, South Wales Police Officers will be able to enjoy a tea break in any one of 40 Co-op stores throughout the force area, as part of an initiative that aims to help forge better links with local communities. Collectively, the short visits will prove invaluable for the force and local people as a high visibility policing exercise, reassuring and instilling confidence among the public. The visits will also help Police Officers piece together intelligence on crime and anti-social behaviour issues effecting local communities, which can be acted upon.It is a pilot scheme that’ll be watched closely by other Police Forces, and a successful campaign could see it rolled out across the thousands of other Co-op stores around the rest of the UK.
Brian Greaves, Acting Assistant Chief Constable of South Wales Police said: "We are continually being asked by the public to become more visible in their communities. The Co-op convenience stores are often a hive of community activity and local information. We need to take advantage of the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the policing requirements, and of course to prevent incidents of crime and anti social behaviour, and increase public reassurance."

RUGBY CLUB ARE 'FED UP' .... Top
(Friday, July 30, 2004)Officials at Treherbert Rugby Football Club are said to be "fed up" with the recent spate of vandalism that has been seen around their playing ground at Tynewydd Park.Treherbert RFC Secretary Mr Terry Lewis said: "We are currently enjoying great success on the playing front and the community is 100% behind us. This vandalism is destroying much of our good work and it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured. The fence around the ground is broken and we have asked the council to repair it as a matter of security, but no action has been taken. I would urge parents to warn their children to stay away from the stand."The latest incident has been fire damage to 1,000 seater stand and unless something is done it is reported that there will be no seating at the ground when Treherbert play in Division 2 East next season. Not only the stands have been attacked but alongside the playing ground there is a children's playground. This has also been attacked by vandals setting fire to the soft flooring around the equipment. The playground cost £15,000 to construct via funding from 'Cwmni'.Treherbert RFC Treasurer is urging the community to help. Mr Peter Griffiths: "We need the help of everyone in the community to put a stop to this vandalism."
Plans to construct a new fence have been confirmed by David Bishop (Group Director, Environmental Services) of Rhondda Cynon Taff Council: "The work will start within the next few weeks on a periphery fence immediately surrounding the children's playground. We are also investigating the ownership and possible repairs of an existing fence at the William Street end of the playing field".
Clubs across Rhondda Cynon Taff have benefited from the second round of Community Chest grants this year – nearly £8000 was awarded to help develop local sport. At the recent meeting of the Rhondda Cynon Taf Community Chest panel, 13 local clubs were awarded a total of £7721.A record amount of Community Chest money is available in Rhondda Cynon Taff this year – clubs can bid for a maximum grant of £750 in any one year. Among those to benefit were Rhondda Housing Association, who were awarded £748 to run a six-week course of swimming lessons for one hour a week for 52 children at Treherbert Swimming Pool.Funding has also been given to Aberdare Rugby Minis (£676) to improve coaching standards and opportunities for youngsters to take part in mini rugby. The club currently have around 130 players and will now train two new coaches to assist in coaching sessions. They will also purchase equipment specific to different age groups - size 3 and 4 rugby balls, tag rugby sets and mini tackle bags. Also, Treforest Football Club (£750) were allocated money to help establishing an under 14 team - the club already has an u17, u19 and 3 senior teams, but this will bring younger players, ensuring its longer-term survival. The money will pay for starter pitch hire to get new sessions underway as well as providing the necessary balls and training equipment. The club train at White Tips Stadium in Treforest. “It’s great news that we’ve had so much funding this year to support local sport in Rhondda Cynon Taff,” said Cyril Chivers, Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Head of Community Leisure. “Once again, we’ll be working to ensure that this record amount gets distributed to all our clubs. Of course, this can only be done with the hard work of the clubs and their volunteers. The money can be invaluable for those clubs looking to expand and grow the activities and facilities it offers. By working together to get the most money out to grass roots level of kids sport we can really make a difference.”The next meeting of the Rhondda Cynon Taff Community Chest panel is on 20th September with the closing date for grant applications being 6th September. PARTNERSHIP "REMEDY" FOR ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR ...... Top
(Wednesday, July 14, 2004)
Against a background of growing public concern about the effects of anti-social behaviour, the Rhondda Cynon Taf Community Safety Partnership is celebrating its recent success in improving the quality of life for many Valleys communities.
The successful “Remedy Project” is unusual, in that it brings offenders and victims together and gives the opportunity for young offenders to make amends to the local community for their actions.
“The Remedy Project has successfully engaged young people in over 70 local projects, as well as working sensitively with the victims of crime,” said Kim Ryley, Chief Executive of Rhondda Cynon Taf and Chair of the Community Safety Partnership. “The Remedy Project team works to repair the links between young people who have offended and their communities. Reparation is a visible ‘payback’ to society, whether it’s removing graffiti from walls, tidying up gardens, cleaning parks or re-painting community centres.”
Reparation is part of orders given by a court if a young person between the ages of 10 to 17 commits a crime. This gives an opportunity for young offenders to make amends to the community for their actions.
The victim of the crime is invited to take part in this process, meeting with members of the Remedy Project - and even the young person if they wish - to discuss how best to move forward.
Two recent Remedy Project initiatives have met with great success in Rhondda Cynon Taff. At Porth Infants School, the team worked with 12-15 young people to clear an air raid shelter underneath the building, repaint the area and install shelving so it could be used for storage. This freed up a room in school that is now being used as a drama classroom. Their next project at the school is to clear out a Portakabin in the grounds, which is earmarked for a nursery.A new allotment is being developed in Cwmaman, where young people will be given the opportunity to look after the land and grow vegetables for themselves and their family. The Remedy Project team are hoping to provide a shed and a greenhouse for the allotment.
“Some young people we’ve worked with have wanted to carry on with their project even when it’s completed,” says Jason Baker from the Remedy Project. “Taking ownership of a project gives them a sense of achievement and fulfilment that will hopefully motivate them to fully reintegrate into their community. They are treated with fairness and respect and are given time and space to reflect on their actions while learning new life skills. The young people take these projects very seriously and feel it is a meaningful way to give something back.”
Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Remedy Project is part of the Youth Offending Team (YOT) based at the Community Safety Service in Fairway Court, Tonteg, alongside Community Safety partners such as South Wales Police, local Health Trusts, and Child Protection officers.
Rhondda Cynon Taff Council and other local organisations are holding an Information Market to support our older residents this winter. Organised by Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Keep Well This Winter (KWTW) Group, the Information Market is being held in Tonypandy town centre to ensure that older residents stay safe in the cold weather. The Information Market will take place on Wednesday August 25 on Tonypandy High Street, with 20 - 30 stalls from different organisations across the County Borough.“Much of the valuable work of the Keep Well This Winter Group involves informing older people of the services and benefits that are available to them,” said Bob Gatis, Rhondda Cynon Taff Council’s Divisional Director for Community Care. “The theme remains the same with the overall message of keep well, keep warm, keep safe.”For further information contact the Rhondda Cynon Taf Freephone CarersLine on 0808-100-1801 or Freephone minicom 0808-100-1675. Keep Well This Winter (KWTW) is a Welsh Assembly initiative aimed at keeping older people safe throughout the winter. The national partners include Care and Repair Cymru, Food Standards Agency, NHS, Citizens Advice Bureau, RNIB, Wales Council for the Blind.
The Rhondda Cynon Taf information market will provide information on: Pensions and benefits, Age Concern, Carers Support Project, Visual Impairment, Home Injury Prevention, Home Energy Efficiency, Flu vaccination information, Parkinsons Disease and Diabetes.
Annual research by Rhondda Cynon Taff Council has found that services at local car garages are improving, but are still a long way from perfect. Trading standards officers at Rhondda Cynon Taff Council have revealed details of a recent investigation into the standard of service received at local garages.
Officers found a significant improvement in the standard of servicing since the last major survey in Spring 2002. At that time, the best service was deemed to be slightly below average (20% of total items not receiving adequate attention). The worst was exceptionally poor (72%). However, on this occasion, the best service is average (14%) and the worst is below average (30%). The overall total of items not receiving adequate attention has fallen from 30.3% to 21.2%.
Various garages were selected for the exercise, which included both main dealers and independent dealers. Some of these garages were members of the Fair Trading Charter for the Motor Trade, whilst others did not come into this category. Five departmental vehicles were specifically prepared by a Consultant Engineer. In each case the Engineer either marked items, adjusted or altered their condition or noted faults already present on the vehicle. In total, five garages were tested with the types of items not given attention including:
Inoperative lamps, Power assisted steering fluid level not topped up and spare tyre under inflated.
“There is still work to be done in this area to ensure that garages provide a good level of service and customers receive exactly what they pay for,” said Angela Jones, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Acting Head of Public Health and Protection. “This area of business is still far from perfect but it is encouraging to see that generally improvements are being made, with garages moving in the right direction. We continue to educate, advise and assist businesses in order for them to offer and deliver the highest levels of service possible for members of the public. It goes without saying that we will continue to investigate and crack down on garages that put the public in any form of danger, and garage owners should be aware of this.”
EX-LEADER ATTACKS NEW LABOUR COUNCIL ...... Top
Plaid Cymru’s Rhondda Cynon Taf Opposition Leader, Councillor Pauline Jarman, has warned that vital European investment is being put at risk by New Labour.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has £3.5 million of Local Regeneration Funding (LRF) lined up for projects, but arbitrary changes to the funding rules made by the New Labour minister mean that the money would be lost for good. Commenting on the crisis, Councillor Jarman said: “Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has an excellent record at organising European investment, but new projects could now be cancelled. These are complex projects, often involving several partners. They can take several years to get off the ground. Until recently, the Assembly sensibly allowed councils the flexibility to carry forward the funding from year to year to ensure that a successful project could get started. The minister has suddenly decided to stop this arrangement and is trying to claw back the unspent funding. New Labour has moved the goal posts. What has changed? Rhodri Morgan’s Government has run out of funds and sees the LRF money as easy pickings. New Labour must not be allowed to get away with this scam. Vital regeneration projects in Rhondda Cynon Taf must not be cancelled just to plug the hole in New Labour’s Assembly budget.”
POLICE NAME VICTIM OF FATAL RHIGOS COLLISION ...... Top
South Wales Police has today named the victim of the fatal collision that happened on the Treherbert side of the Rhigos Mountain Road on Sunday, June 27.
Christian James Davies, a 29 year old plant operator from Ogmore Vale, sustained fatal injuries when he fell off the motor bike that he was riding at about 11:45am. He was working on the new terminal building in Heathrow before the tragedy happened. He left behind his two sons, Joshua and Corry, partner Sarah Casey, both parents, three sisters and a brother.
His family today also issued a tribute to him: ‘Christian was a loving partner, son and brother. He was a very popular person with lots of friends, who looked up to him and would go to him for any advise they needed. He was a very hard working person and also enjoyed his life to its full.
The whole family and friends are totally devastated at the loss. He will be always remembered by everyone that knew him.’
South Wales Police would ask any persons who may have witnessed the incident to contact the Northern Roads Policing Unit at Treforest Police Station on 01656 655 555 or their nearest police station.
EX-LEADER ATTACKED BY NEW COUNCIL LEADER ...... Top
(Thursday, June 1, 2004)Plaid Cymru’s Rhondda Cynon Taff Opposition Leader, Pauline Jarman, will be reporting the New Labour Council Leader to the District Auditor following his refusal to act on his accusations that the Council’s budget is illegal. At a Council meeting held on July 1, Councillor Jarman demanded that the New Labour Leader withdraw his false claim that the 2004/05 budget is £15 million in the red. Following his refusal Councillor Jarman proposed that a Treasurer’s Report be ordered to investigate his claims - the council "voted the proposal down".
Councillor Jarman said: “There is no £15 million hole in the Council’s budget. Plaid Cymru handed the new administration a properly balanced and legal budget with £8 million of reserves. New Labour’s claims are false and their behaviour makes no sense. The New Labour Leader cannot have it both ways. He should either withdraw his false claims about this imaginary deficit, or act like a responsible Council Leader, follow the law and call for a Treasurer’s Report. Russell Roberts was the New Labour Council Leader who oversaw the collapse of the Council’s finances in 1999. He still can’t understand a council budget and he doesn’t know the first thing about his legal responsibilities. I have no choice but to report the matter to the District Auditor. This false claim about a deficit must either be withdrawn or proved and sorted out. This mess does not bode well for the residents Rhondda Cynon Taf. I am concerned that New Labour can’t control council spending. They will blow a hole in the Councils finances and it will be the council tax payer who will have to pick up the bill.”

After months of hard work and planning the staff and pupils of Penyrenglyn Community School officially launched their new garden last Friday. Constructed by local gardeners with financial support from All Wales Awards, the garden consists of vegetables and flowers. Built in memory of past teachers and pupils who have sadly died the garden will be used as an area of calm for both pupils and teachers. Councillor Jeff Williams, who lives opposite the new garden, said: "It's an excellent project. This has enhanced the scenery and the views for the pupils, staff and parents. Its a lovely school. I was sad to see the old school demolished but this is an excellent replacement and it's good for the kids in the area. This is my first engagement as councillor and it couldn't have started off in a better way." The garden cost £2,000 to construct and plant up by local gardeners Les, Elwin, Phillip and John Oliver, aka. Nhoj. The garden consists of vegetable and salad patch, flowers, seating area, rose beds and a greenhouse for peppers and tomato.
"Cwmni helped us find the funding for this garden through the Millennium Awards scheme. Thanks to Cwmni and all the community who supported us." said John Oliver, aka. Nhoj. "For me its a garden for the children and the children love to be involved."

PENYRENGLYN AUTHOR TO CLIMB BEN NEVIS...... Top
(Saturday, June 26, 2004)
During the final weekend of September, weather permitting, Penyrenglyn author Sean James Cameron will be climbing the UK’s largest mountain to raise money for research into Chronic Fatigue Syndrome."Currently I’m training by climbing the mountains around Treherbert on a daily basis. I get up at 4:30am and am on the mountainside before 5am. I find it easier to climb at this time in the morning before the heat reaches its peak. A few weeks ago I climbed Pen-y-Fan mountain in the Brecon Beacons which is the highest peak in South Wales and this was a good indication of my fitness level in preparation for Ben Nevis." said Mr Cameron.

The money raised by his climb will benefit research into Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, also known as Myalgic Encephalitis, via The ME Association. Not only will Sean be climbing but he will be filming the whole process for a documentary about living with M.E. and hopes to raise the profile of this condition through both the climb and the programme."I was diagnosed with the condition during Christmas 1996. I had contracted Glandular fever in the May of that year and it developed into M.E. Compaired to some of the most severe cases of the condition I am classed as having the moderate type. It does effect my life but I have now learn to live with it. At the moment there is no cure for this condition and that’s why these funds are so important."
Sean is currently looking for sponsorship and would like to hear from companies or individuals who would like to sponsor him on his climb. He can be contacted on 07952-245-967 or via seanjamescameron@hotmail.com

A number of potential sites for the development of skateboarding facilities have been earmarked and feasibility studies on these sites will soon be underway. BT INCREASE PAY PHONE COSTS ...... Top
The cost to use a pay phone has increased from 20p to 30p. The price change has been introduced across the UK. The minimum fee will increase from 20p to 30p. At the moment 30p buys a local or national call of up to two minutes 45 seconds. In the future 30p will buy 15 minutes; this would currently cost £1.70. Paul Hendron, director of BT Payphones, said: "The reaction to the trial has been fantastic - with people welcoming the fact that they can make longer calls for their money. We think that this offers great value and independent research in the trial area has shown 78 per cent of our customers agree. We want them to vote with their feet and get back into phone boxes to take advantage of the extra value."To meet the increasing demand for more sophisticated services, BT has transformed more than 1,500 payphones into Internet Kiosks, opening up public access to the internet, e-mail, text messaging and even video and picture e-mail. Many phone boxes are being adapted to include new services. A new style of phone box is hitting UK high streets, fitted with a cash machine and a payphone.BT Openzone Wi-Fi access points are being installed in broadband enabled payphones to bring wireless broadband to the streets. Subscribers can connect to the internet or their office intranet using a Wi-Fi enabled laptop or PDA.The 30p minimum fee will apply to all cash payphone calls. For local and
national cash calls at any time, customers will receive 15 minutes for the
minimum fee of 30p, equivalent to 2p per minute. After the 30p minimum fee has
been used up callers will get an additional seven and a half minutes for each

positive with a number of businesses and residents saying how pleased they are
that someone is showing an interest in the appearance of these buildings and
are doing something to make the area brighter. We believe the boards will not
only improve the way the area looks but will show visitors that there are beautiful
waterfalls nearby with stunning areas for walking around the unique flat-top
mountain of Pen Pych".
The next building to get the Cwmni treatment is the 'Blacksmiths Arms' on Baglan Street in Penyrenglyn which has been empty for over ten years. To get a sneak preview of these new pictures, click here.
