June 21st - 25th Ystradyfodwg Art Society's 36th Annual Art Exhibition.
We spotted our local pharmacist Mr. Geraint Davies (Rhondda's first National Assembly Member 1999-2003 and former Treherbert Ward Councillor for many years) with his wife Merril. pictured left. Also in keen attendance to support the event was one of our two current Treherbert Ward Councillors Jeff Williams. pictured below. This year pupils from Treorchy Comprehensive School have been invited to exhibit their own works alongside the main exhibition, and their standard of work is also very encouraging to see. A delightful local event - pop down and have a look for yourself.
The main exhibition this year displays some 233 paintings, created by various members of this Rhondda art society, through their use of a wide variety of painting mediums such as water-colour, oils. pastels and acrylic etc. Paintings are also available for sale and vary in prices from £18 to £300 - so there's something to suit all pockets! The exhibition is open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am until 9pm - but will close early on Saturday at 3pm. Entry is £1 by programme - available at the door. Admittance for Senior Citizens is 50 pence and all accompanied children can enter for free.

Derek Windsor speaks about the Rhondda Valleys. Treherbert Art Gallery is currently presenting an exhibition of new works by Derek Windsor. Derek Windsor came to Blaencwm by accident and found it perfect place to paint and explore. Reflecting on his own experiences he intends others to appreciate the beauty that is surrounding them on their doorstep through his paintings. The exhibition portrays a sense of grace, freedom and imagination that is manifested in our lives and is indicative of experiences on a day to day basis. The paintings encompass our dreams and visions, providing a passage from daylight perception to another more personal realm. Please visit the Gallery to view the work and meet the artist. The exhibition will run until the 9th June 2005. Other new works to gallery not to be missed Dylan Dragons, Stain Glass, Wood Carvings and various arts and crafts by the local people.
