TREHERBERT & DISTRICT FOOD AND CRAFT FAYRE 2004

Stalls with jams, stalls with vegetables, stalls with crafts, stalls with paintings, stalls with wool, stalls with plants, stalls with ........

Saturday October 16, 2004 will go down in the history of Treherbert as the launch of the annual Treherbert & District Food and Craft Fayre. There was an array of different and diverse stalls ranging from christmas cards and gifts to wooden spoons through to paintings and a local sculptor.

On entering the street you could have been forgiven for thinking it wasn't worth a visit but within a few hours visitors were commenting on how quickly the hours had past. And it was not only a fayre to purchase items but an opportunity to chat with local residents and artists. One of these artists was Rebecca Buck.

Originally from New York Rebecca moved to Blaencwm a few years ago and finds the area very rewarding and complimentary to her work. She is currently working with the Penyrenglyn Project on a piece of abstract artwork. (Listen to her thoughts on the day).

Organised by David Brooks, on behalf of Cwmni, the event has taken months to organise and it is hoped that due to the huge success of this event that they will become a regular event in the Treherbert calendar.

David Brooks : "I'm really pleased, I never expected this many people to turn up. All the comments have been positive and everyone seems to be going home happen. The idea behind this day was to get local food and craft exhibitors to have stalls and we had been successful in doing that as well as have a few traveling producers. There has been talk of a Christmas Fayre but we'll have to look into that. We will definitely being holding one in Spring 2005. I really am pleased and would like to thank both the exhibitors and residents of Treherbert in supporting this event."

Music was going to the supplied by Treherbert Silver Band but they had to withdraw at the last moment.

Local resident Nita Rees of Treherbert was surprised by the event. "I didn't expect it to be quite as good. As a rule when events are put on in Treherbert they are not up to scratch but this event is really nice. Hopefully they can become a regular event at Christmas, Spring and Summer. I've bought some Christmas cards, fruit and vegetables. I'm off home now - I'm spent out. It's been a really wonderful day. What more do you want."

In the raffle the winners were Jean Bentley of Tynewydd, A.L.E Hill of Tynewydd and Alyson Murphy of Treherbert. All winners received a basket of flowers.

Organiser David Brooks takes a few minutes out to relax.
