An elderly gentleman has died, following a fire
at his home in Tynewydd this afternoon. Fire crews from Treorchy and Tonypandy
were called to the terraced house in Margaret Street, Tynewydd shortly after
midday, but upon their arrival they found that the fire was already out. The
cause of the fire is currently unknown, and under investigation.
TOTW Update: January 6.
Police have officially confirmed that the gentleman was Mr Ron Davies,
84. Mr Davies died from smoke and fume inhalation. The investigation concluded
that the fire, which began on the bed, was probably started by a faulty electric
blanket or discarded match. Police are not treating the death as suspicious.
