Renewal Team and the Treherbert Steering group to identify environmental
projects that need to be undertaken within the two villages as part of the
wider NRA scheme.

to have free swimming lessons.

Group and the Local Health Board to arrange two public meetings were held
in Tynewydd to discuss the issues and problems being faced by local residents
at the doctor’s surgeries as well as the new GP Contracts.
River Clearance & Flower Planting
Undertaken
Worked with CwmNi’s environmental theme group and local residents to
undertake a river clean day and bulb planting day with the village. (In total
over 125 residents helped over the five CwmNi villages).
FREE SWIMMING
LESSONS
The children in Tynewydd are currently enjoying the opportunity of learning
to swim. The Tynewydd Steering Group decided that they would like to give
some help to local children, and ‘free swimming lessons’ seemed
an ideal project. There was a huge interest in this course, but at the present
moment in time, there are only 20 spaces available, so names were chosen
at random. The lessons are on a Saturday and Sunday for 6 weeks and after
the lessons have been completed each child may visit the pool twice more
for free swims.
To date the lessons have proved invaluable with the children loving every
minute of it and the parents are grateful for the opportunity for their children
to get involved in something that is not just fun but may someday save their
child or even someone else’s life.

The Group was the third forum to be developed by CwmNi. Recent successes include their consultation with Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council to install new children's play equipment and erect appropriate warning signs within the Tynewydd park. The steering group is also funding a number of free swimming lessons for 4 to 14 year olds soon.
Tynewydd
Park has recently received a new piece of play equipment at the cost
of £15,000. In addition to new equipment, there will be further
improvements such as new benches, fencing repairs, new litter and dog
fouling bins to improve the general appearance of the park.
Another project in the pipeline, is the proposed refurbishment of the park toilets,
we will keep you posted on any further updates!
Thanks go to the Tynewydd Steering Group who held consultations with the Council
to get these improvement works conducted. Let’s hope that the park will
be used more often, now that the area is a safer place to play!
